End of Dec, End of 2017

It has been cold. Some days with highs of 10 and others with highs around 0. Depending on the wind it can be fine for x-country skiing and hiking always works. Early January looks like a continuation of the cold. The prediction for Sat 1/6 is a high of -5!.
Below are pictures from Bolton 12/30/17. A cold day, maybe 0 in the mountains, but no wind so actually pretty nice. A lot of sun also which helps.

This was taken from work on another cold day

This picture, and most of rest, are Bolton 12/30

Time off and snow

Skied Christmas Day at Smugglers Notch. Nice 3-4 inches of powder on top of plenty of snow. Empty chairs going up all day. No ice to speak of. Docs and FIS were in great shape. Free Fall and lift line were open. I went down Free Fall and it had nice snow except for the usual cliff area in the middle. 12/26 was Bolton with plenty of powder and un-tracked almost everywhere I went. It looks like some extended cold weather coming up for the next week.

Bolton 12/26:

12/24 - Walked around the LaPlatte trails and did some extended off trail exploring which is easy in the winter. Was out for 2 hours which is pretty good for something that is 2 miles from my house.

And more Bolton...

OK, that is the lake, not Bolton

Mid December

It has been cold and there has been a fair amount of snow in the mountains. Last wed, 12/13, was a good powder day at Smugglers Notch. Trails with no snow making were open and good. Went to Bolton 12/18 and that is all in good shape. Looks like some warm weather for next weekend but we shall see.
