Castle in the clouds

There is a lot more here than I remember or knew. My mother said I should go here and she was right.
I only went on about 1/3 of the trails so there will be other days here. It happened to be a blue sky day with ice on the trees. A nice day to be out.
I went to Bald Knob and Turtleback Mountain. I read that Turtleback has rock created from volcanic activity.
I then went down Shannon Brook trail which had many waterfalls. Some of them pretty big.

First 3 pictures from the day before of the pond area.

Sandwich Notch (again)

Trying to stay close to the house since you are not supposed to be out. I read the stay at home order for NH and it really isn't that clear. Stay at home unless you need to go to store or work or exercise. Kind of contradicts itself in a few places. Anyway no point in driving too far.
Went to Mt Squam and then to Mt Percival via Sandwich Notch. It was a 12 mile round trip hike and I saw no one until the top of Percival. The way I went up is not popular! It could be 9 miles but the road is closed still for winter so you need to walk that as well.  There are a couple of steep sections particularly since the trail is still mostly snow and ice. Could of used the Katoola's but not sure where they are these days. I had them out West so they are somewhere around here. This trail has lots of views of Squam Lake from Mt Squam and Percival and a number of other lookouts on the way.

Only foot prints were mine.

Squam lake views in many spots

Trail has some steep sections

A few lake pictures near house. Lake is breaking up. Pond is still frozen although has that blue look which usually means it will break up soon.

Light at my mothers house. Looked like the moon this AM.
