Brewster River Trails (winter)

This is mostly a snow shoe or walking place but there are ski tracks on most trails. As long as there is good snow it is fine for skiing. Pretty nice going down to the river and around the field loop that is across from the parking lot. The best skiing is up near Sterling Ridge. I did a loop that went up the snow mobile trail and then South and down to connect back to the regular trail system. Maybe park in the upper lot that goes right to Sterling ridge. Lots of woods off the regular trails with snow mobile trails and a large sugarbush. More exploring up beyond the Sterling Ridge trails next time.

Another cold day but intense sun and little wind made it pretty comfortable.

Two good days

Skied Thu and Fri a Stowe. Friday AM was very nice with maybe 4 inches of new snow. Finally enough snow to ski in the woods and open up most of the trails.

Both days I went x-country skiing on the Stowe bike path after downhill. Good way to warm up and a nice ski near the river and some nice mountain views.

Smuggs - exploring

Back to Smugglers Notch x-country. Today was exploring the back country trails. The first trail was a logging trail that goes up on the logging area cutover about half way down the cutover. This is pretty steep and goes up pretty far. I followed this to a ridge area and the trail was flat for a while and then started going down. I thought I could keep going and cut back to the x-country center but wasn't sure so I headed back the way I came. In retrospect I think going down this route would have led back to the trails. I then went further on the groomer to just before the high point. A named trail goes off on the left called Daniels Notch. This wasn't as steep and went up into another nice area with a fair amount of open woods. Snow was still pretty good since it has been cold. On the way down the groomers I took a left on Bills Way to The Walk. This was a different way down and I ended up below the car. Another good day!

Craftsbury

A sunny day at Craftsbury. It was -15 when we woke up but 10 by the time we got to Craftsbury. Maybe a high of 15 before going back to 10 when we finished. With no wind and intense sun it was actually very comfortable. Always fun to ski at Craftsbury. Large area and all perfectly maintained. Also closer drive from Milton.
