Delay Of Game

It has been a week of bad skiing. I went hiking both days last weekend, which was nice, but too icy for skiing. Today (2/1/18) I went skiing on groomed trails at Bolton. They got a little snow up there and the groomed trails were OK. I went into the woods a little and quickly learned it needs more snow. It looks like we will be getting some snow early next week that could put things back in shape. We shall see.

Ice walk

It rained Tue 11/23 in the mountains and the valley. This time there was no snow as the storm moved out and it got cooler. Skiing is probably done until we get a significant snow storm which is not in the weather forecast at the moment. I went walking at the LaPlatte River trails and Kingsland Bay. Both sets of trails were icy but it was interesting to see the ice around the edges of the lake and the ice in and around the river.

Surprise

This weekend it was above freezing in the valley (~40). I knew I needed to be up at higher elevations if the skiing was going to be any good. It turns out Bolton was just high enough. The snow stayed good all weekend. Where it was un-tracked there was 2-4 inches of powder on a good base. Surprisingly good skiing! The area going down toward Cotton Brook off of Paradise Pass was great. Also found a good way to get into the glades that go from Moose Glen to North Slope. Head into the woods at the large clearing toward the end of the trail. Where it was tracked it was fast packed powder. Saturday looked like it was close to sunset all day long the way the clouds were.
