First day of the season for me. I wasn't planning on skiing when I woke up but saw a web cam on Sugarbush and it looked pretty good. No snow at the base but it quickly built up as I gained elevation. About 1/3 of the way up you could ski. The top half had good snow. I took two laps on Heavens gate and it was good for a first day out in October. Lower down it was heavier but still OK and I poked around on some of the lower trails. All in all a nice first day out there and got me thinking about all the possibilities for the season. The mountain was in a cloud most of the day which kept the temps just below freezing which was good for the snow.
It has been rainy for the last week and next week looks like mostly cloudy/rainy as well. The mountains have been getting some snow and today was a perfect sunny day. Below freezing in the mountains and 2-4 inches of snow. Not enough to ski but close!
Camels Hump with a stop at Huntington gorge on the way home.
