Grand Canyon 6/15-6/22

Trip with Canyon Explorations to the Grand Canyon. Upper river trip covering about 100 miles from Lees Ferry to Bright Angel trail. Hiked from river up Bright Angel trail on the last day to return to South Rim. Also went to Plateau Point on the way up Bright Angel trail.

12 people in our group: Kim, John, Jill, Brian, Julie, Suzy, Mike, Nicole, Pete, Jane, Carolyn, Ken

The trip was a combination of rafting and hiking in the canyon. The rafting involved 3 14 foot paddle boats with 6 people and one guide in each boat. An additional 4 row boats (18 feet) were rowed by 4 guides. The row boats contained all of the gear. Sleeping was in the open (no tent) and temps were 65-70 at night except for the last night where it was closer to 80.

Hikes went up into canyons and went to ruins, pools of water, up the Little Colorado river, and another canyon that had some water and the most diverse plant life in the canyon.

The Colorado river was about 50 degrees and warmed a little as the trip went on. The Little Colorado river where we spent an afternoon was about 65 and a caribbean blue color. The days were hot, maybe 90-100+ degrees but the river was always close by to instantly cool off. The river also cooled beer and anything else that needed cooling by hanging net bags off of the boats.

Many rapids in the river followed by stretches of flat water.

More details will be added.
