Smugglers Notch Last Day

Closing day at Smugglers Notch. This day wasn't nearly as good as yesterday. Yesterday was a great Spring day with FIS skiing great top to bottom. Saturday night it rained a fair amount and on Sunday there were a number of areas that were down to ice/slush instead of snow. Mostly because the previous day was so good I got bored and stopped around 12:00. I decided to head up into the notch on the closed road. This was interesting! It was a warm day and water was pouring down the cliffs. There were a number of waterfalls that are not there any other time of the year. One was probably 200 feet high or more. There were also loud booms every once in a while. Big pieces of ice and some rock was falling down from the cliffs. I happened to be looking at elephants head and a large bolder fell while I was watching! I also saw a large area of ice break off and crash down. Turned into an interesting afternoon and a nice walk on the road which still had about a foot of snow on it.

Getting thin. A lot of snow went away Saturday night.

Hard to see in this picture but big waterfall in the distance.

Snow needs to melt a little before road opens.

Puttin up another shack in Stowe
