Paris

After the week in Corsica we went to Paris for two days. We stayed with Laure and Jim in their apartment which was right in the city maybe one mile from the Eiffel Tower. Their building was built around 1880 and Laure's grandfather was involved in the design. The entrance had two very large doors and an area where you could drive your horse and carriage. The buildings in this area of Paris and a lot of Paris are very impressive. Stone buildings with incredible detail on the outside. The inside of their apartment had 12? foot ceilings and large windows overlooking the city. The stairs going up were marble. People were not trying to cut corners in this time period of France!
We had a half day on Sunday and a full day on Monday to tour the city. On Sunday we walked to the Eiffel Tower and the Seine river area. We went to the Rodin museum near the worlds fair buildings. There are two large stone buildings that hold changing art exhibits and a bridge over the river that were built for the fair. We had dinner at one of the buildings on Sunday night. Impressive buildings with many stone carvings and statues.
On Monday we took the Metro North to the Sacre Coeur church. From there we walked back to the Seine a little further East than the previous day to the Louvre area. We had lunch at a place in Northern Paris near Sacre Coeur. We split a cheese plate which was interesting. 6 different types of cheeses with good french bread. We also walked through the fashion district with plenty of Mercedes, Porches, etc in the streets. Some nice sidewalk cafes in this area but if you have to ask the price you can't afford it!
Paris was pretty clean and our experience with the metro and the city was good. It seems cleaner and in better shape than my previous short visit maybe 25 years ago.
