Hanging Lake

This is a hike in the Glenwood Springs area. I wasn't planning on it today but it just happened. I had pulled into the Grizzly rest area to check out the river but somehow took a wrong turn back onto 70 going east. The first opportunity to turn around was the Hanging Lake rest area which is only accessible going east. I was walking around by the river and ran into the person who manages the permits. It is a popular hike and permits ($10) are required. I had enough time so I decided to go. It is a spectacular hike. Up through the Glenwood Canyon area to a nice lake. The lake has water falls on one side. You can walk up above the lake to a nice waterfall that comes right out of the middle of the rock. The whole hike has great views. This is worth doing again and would likely be even nicer when it isn't winter. Lots of pictures here. The sun was right at the top of the cliffs when I was at the waterfall.
