Arches NP

This is the time of year to go to Arches. This is one of those parks that has crowding problems. I had a bad experience here a number of years ago. Today was great! I have been here a number of times so I decided to talk to a ranger and see if there was something new to me to explore. It turns out the ranger lives in Hinesburg VT and comes to Moab for the winter and volunteers at the park! After talking about VT we found three things that I have not seen yet:

Tapestry Arch and Broken Arch from Sand Dune Arch parking area.

Tower Arch: 7 mile one way on dirt road but fine for car.

Fiery Furnace: You need a permit for this. Need to book permit a week or less from the day you want to go. Things get busy after 3/1 and you may have trouble getting the permit beyond that date.

The first option I went on today. Nice loop walk with multiple arches in an area of strange fin type towers. The 2nd and 3rd options I will need to go on another day. I also got a chance to go to the Devils Garden at the end of the day to see Landscape, Partition, and Navajo arches.

On the Devils Garden trail I ran into a couple who lived in Alaska in the 80's. He worked on a fishing boat that dropped their fish off at the cannery in Homer. I worked at the cannery in Homer. We determined that I may have been gutting some of the fish from his boat since we were both there in 1984.

Long day!!

La Sal mountains. Snow makes them stand out:
