Mid December

It has been cold and there has been a fair amount of snow in the mountains. Last wed, 12/13, was a good powder day at Smugglers Notch. Trails with no snow making were open and good. Went to Bolton 12/18 and that is all in good shape. Looks like some warm weather for next weekend but we shall see.

Skiing - Bolton

There have been a few good storms in the mountains. Skiing at Smugglers Notch was good last wed and there were a few trails open with no snow making that were pretty good. It has been above freezing during the day in the valleys so I decided to go to Bolton to get some elevation. The snow was skiable from the parking lot but there was a crust on it until I got up to the Birch Loop area. It got better and better as I went up from there. I ended up skiing the catamount trail (Bolton->Trapps) up to the high point where the view is and then back. I was breaking trail from Ravins wind on and didn't see anyone the whole time I was out. Nice snow from Ravins Wind on.
