Thu afternoon at Bolton. Plenty of snow, some blue sky, and some territory I have not been to in a few years. Started with the usual Alchemist->Stowe View->Paradise pass-> white rabbit. Then up North Slope to Georges Gorge->Cliff Hanger->Prayer flags. Then to North Ridge up to Long trail. This was really nice. Down Eagles nest and Fox Hollow. Lots of powder in this area as there was only one track from the day before. It is getting very deep. If you plant a pole in the wrong place it can go down to the handle.
Hi - read this entry with interest as I am learning my way around the Bolton Backcountry and have skied the long trail sections and the area around Stowe View. Curious what you mean by "alchemist" and "white rabbit" as I am not familiar with those names. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCheck out the Bolton back country map at the bolton web site. That shows a lot of the woods trails including alchemist. The rest you can find by following tracks from the main trails. Fun to explore!

ReplyDeleteHi - thanks, I figured it out. I actually stumbled on the Bolton Friends Trail Work Maps (https://boltonfriends.org/trail-work-maps/#) and those had a bit more detail than the bolton valley official map. Turns out I have skied white rabbit many times to get from Stowe View area back down to wilderness. I love that route. I am still learning the glades where Alchemist is found but as you say, fun to explore. Yesterday I skinned up wilderness, continued breaking trail up to the summit of ricker, took the work road over to the top of vista quad, and then down to timberline via the glades off of Cobrass. A fun route. Hope to see you out there at some point!
ReplyDeleteBolton Friends is something to consider. They clear all the trails in the Fall and also do bridge work and drainage work. On their site they will have the work schedule when it gets closer to next Fall. I have been doing that for a while. It keeps the back country going as Bolton takes care of the groomed trails only.
