This is a great hike 20 miles driving from the house. A large area at the top of this mountain is rock. Today it had about 3-4 feet of snow on it so it smoothed everything out. Great views in all directions and an interesting hike.
We went up the Liberty trail which is an 8 mile RT hike. We went just over 10 miles because the road doesn't go all the way to the trail in the winter. We also started up the Brook Trail and decided to skip it since it was untracked.
At one point you get to what is now a cabin. You can stay over night there and it can sleep nine people. No one there today and no one on the trail either. Back in the day the cabin was a hotel and it was three stories high. This is in the 1890-1915 time frame.
Snow was just about perfect. Solid yet you could get into the first few inches so hiking was likely as good as it gets on this steep mountain in February.
