Skiing like it is winter

I noticed that Bolton is on the way to Stowe so decided to downhill and x-country today. Stowe had great conditions and it snowed maybe 4 inches above 2K feet in the last 24 hours. Found new woods for me far to skiers right. Not a lot of people skiing at Stowe today.
Bolton is closed but the conditions are great. Heavenly Highway and Stowe view had mid winter conditions. A deer ran in front of me on White Rabbit and you could see that the snow was deep. Down low you know it is Nov since the streams are not frozen but all in all pretty amazing for November.
Note: Go straight where Gardiners takes the sharp left and head to the right after a little while into some very nice glades.

Stowe - opening day

We got about 5 inches in the valley and maybe 12 in the mountains. Stowe was great, particularly in the AM. Connected with a few powder trails from woods entries.

Earlier in November...

Skiing!

First day of the season for me. I wasn't planning on skiing when I woke up but saw a web cam on Sugarbush and it looked pretty good. No snow at the base but it quickly built up as I gained elevation. About 1/3 of the way up you could ski. The top half had good snow. I took two laps on Heavens gate and it was good for a first day out in October. Lower down it was heavier but still OK and I poked around on some of the lower trails. All in all a nice first day out there and got me thinking about all the possibilities for the season. The mountain was in a cloud most of the day which kept the temps just below freezing which was good for the snow.

Very top of Heavens gate. In a cloud.

Not a lot of snow at the base!

Clear and cold

It has been rainy for the last week and next week looks like mostly cloudy/rainy as well. The mountains have been getting some snow and today was a perfect sunny day. Below freezing in the mountains and 2-4 inches of snow. Not enough to ski but close!
Camels Hump with a stop at Huntington gorge on the way home.
