Tripyramid - Middle and North

These are mountains that I visited in the Spring (see May 12 post). On that day I didn't make it up Tripyramid North due to ice on the slide near the top. I then went down and up Tripyramid South. On that day I started out from the Waterville Valley side. That was a long day!

Today was a nice loop going up Pine Bend Brook trail and down Sabbaday Brook trail. I parked at the Sabbaday Falls lot and walked a mile on 112 to get to the start of the Pine Bend Brook trail. This trail is in good shape and well marked. It is relatively flat for the first few miles and then it goes up pretty quickly. It was very icy up above 3000 feet. We had rain a few days ago that must have fallen as rain up there and then frozen. A thin coating of ice on everything. It was snowing off and on very lightly today. North Tripyramid does not have views but Middle has views in two directions. Sabbaday Falls trail is pretty rough with many trees down across the trail. If you like stream crossing this is the trail. Up high they were easy but you could see a lot of side streams going into the stream and as you got lower it got stronger and stronger. There are 3 crossings that are tough about a mile away from the bottom. I am sure these would be very difficult in the Spring. Today they were tricky but I didn't get wet. Sabbaday Falls is a significant waterfall near the road. It is a big drop which you really can't see that well in the pictures. Interesting area and a good way to end a 2.5 mile stream walk.

I didn't see anyone on this hike the whole day. Surprising since it is off 112 and also goes by Sabbaday Falls which is popular in the summer.
