Waumbek and Cabot

These two are the furthest away from Moultonborough where I have been climbing 4000 footers. They are also arguably the least exciting of the NH 48 4000 footers. Since the drive is 2+ hours each way I decided to try and climb both in the same day. Cabot has some gate restrictions since it is at the Berlin Fish Hatchery so you need to be down by 4:00 and can't start until 7:30. I left early and went to Waumbek first. It was clear and relatively cold (35) when I got there at 6:30. I moved fast on this trail which is pretty smooth except for maybe 2 miles of rougher terrane. The mountain is treed but there are a few lookouts in one direction. Not a very exciting mountain. There were a few Gray Jays? and partridge. Nice orange glow to the sky in the morning. I made it back to the car by 9AM which was really pushing it. Over to the base of Cabot by 10AM.

Cabot is longer and has a rougher trail than Waumbek. A nice stream that you follow for about a mile and also a few OK lookouts. It stayed reasonably cool at elevation which made for a nice day. I moved along on this one as well and was down by 2PM. Back to the house in time to see the sunset.

The day was 17 miles. Nice to get both of these done at once.
