Scarborough, Portland

Two preserves that were new to us today and Kettle Cove, Crescent Beach, and Fort Williams Park. The first preserve was Pleasant Hill. This was an area of woods and marsh in Scarborough. The second was Robinson woods Preserve which was woods with a short access to the ocean. Robinson Woods was nice because it was an older forest with large trees. Too rocky to farm. I would say Robinson Woods was the nicest of the two preserves although they were very different. At the end of the day we went to a talk by the Portland Water District. A history talk about the water structure that brings Sebago Lake water to Portland for drinking water. This started in 1869. They said Sebago Lake has a consistent 50 foot visibility depth as measured over many years with a Secchi disk. Interesting description of the water and sewer systems of Portland and how they evolved.
