Orcas Island - Moran park

Moran State Park is on the East side of the horse shoe island and has Mt Constitution. We did a loop trail that went up the mountain, to Twin Lakes, and back to the starting point at Mountain Lake. The trail changed a fair amount during the hike. It started in a forest of smaller trees with many brow downs. Miles of woods with the floor covered in downed trees. The top of Mt Constitution has a stone tower that gives you 360 views. We talked to someone at the top who had biked up and was training for a 60 day bike tour in the Rocky Mountains. Then we went down by Twin Lakes and finally walked along the edge of Mountain Lake. Here the trees were large and it had more of an older growth Pacific forest.

This day and the next we got out paddling on West Sound which ends in Massacre Bay. Nice calm weather for paddling. We all saw seals swimming in the bay with one swimming by the shore when we were watching the sunset. Other wildlife included a number of bald eagles and turkey vultures. We saw one bald eagle fly very fast along a valley as we watched from turtleback.
