El Malpais National Monument

 This place is great!

today was varied. Walking on lava beds, lava tubes (caves), sandstone cliffs, high desert trails. How many people in the trails? Zero. A little strange leaving your car at trailhead with no one else there.

I will take a quick opportunity to apologize for blog entries in this trip. Working with Amazon Fire instead of computer. It almost works!

the first hike was El Calderon on the West side route 53. Volcanic area with Lots of lava flows and lava tubes. Interesting 5 mile loop.

The second hike was The Narrows. Not sure why they call it that. This trail ran along the top of a long sandstone bluff. The weather today was mostly good. Temps 30 to 50 and mostly sunny. This hike though had winds from 20 to 50. Winds that at times pushed you around. Lunch was behind a large rock in a small cave to get out of the wind.

Hike 3 was another volcanic area. Very cool. The whole hike was on lava. Another world.
