VT to Grants NM

The plan was to weave around some storms that were crossing the US. In particular I wanted to avoid snow and ice in Oklahoma city. I am pretty sure they have less plows than the small town I live in in VT.

I ended up leaving 2 days earlier than plan. Route below is for future reference.

87 to Saratoga springs to 50,67,90. 90 last Buffalo to 271,71. 71 to Columbus then 270,70. Before st Louis 70 to 55,44. 44 by Tulsa and 40 at Oklahoma city. This seemed like a good route but it was a weekend so hard to say. Lots of traffic in Oklahoma city. St Louis looked like trouble but OK on this trip.

First night was Loves truck stop, I70 exit 59. Fine place but noisy as truck stops always are. Second night Wal-Mart in Yukon OK. This was nice and had a good night sleep. Third day made it to Grants NM where I will stay 2 nights before heading to Sedona.

Two long days heading out. Did see big ice jam in river in NY. Thousands of wind mills in Texas. Tumble  weeds blowing across the road in NM.

weather was all over. First night low was 30 and second 20. High of 73 first day and 60 second. Big shifts!

Thoughts on driving day lengths...

600 miles , easy day

700 miles, not bad, good progress

800 miles, long day, getting ugly

900 miles, ugly

End of day 1

Traffic OK city

NM rest areas
