PEI National Park

Along part of the North shore of Prince Edward Island is the National Park. There are three sections. The West section is in Cavendish where we are staying. We also went to the Brackley section further East. Both areas have red sand stone rocks that make up the bank behind the beach. As we traveled East there were areas of sand dunes on top of the red rock. Brackley Beach is an example.

Between the two park areas we visited North Rustico Harbour. You could see damage here from last years hurricane Fiona. Buildings knocked off there foundations and trees up rooted. We also stopped at the Brackley Dunes Studio Gallery near the entrance to the Brackley part of the National Park. This place is pretty amazing. The grounds are filled with flower gardens and there is also a large vegetable garden. An on site artist makes amazing drift wood furniture. Some of it with designs carved in but all of it unique and also pretty comfortable looking the way each piece is made. Inside there is a large gallery with local artists and also Bali art that is brought back by the owners. Overwhelming how much there is. Art, furniture, pottery, clothing.

Once in the central National Park we went to Brackley Beach, Covehead lighthouse, and hiking at bubbling springs. This hike had a pond with numerous ducks and the bubbling spring which was interesting. Ground pressure causes water to bubble up in one circular area. The mosquitos were particularly fond of this area. On that subject the bugs are fine in most places but some woods hikes near water can be rough.

Finally we went for a short hike at the Anne Of Green Gables homesite. Very close to hotel.
