Jekyll Island - GA

It was cooler today with temperatures not changing much going from 65 to 70. Windy on the beach but fine on the trails inland. Jekyll Island is small at 7 miles long by 1.5 miles wide so we were able to get around most of it in one day. This was an island where wealthy people had cottages in the early 1900's. There is also an Island Club which is still open as a hotel today. We walked inside the hotel and it is pretty impressive. There was one area where the floor was made of cedar in brick size pieces. Part of it was original from early 1900's and still in good shape. The houses are all part of the State Park it seems. No one lives in them but you can tour some of them. The island has bike/walking paths around the entire island. We went to Driftwood Beach, Great Dunes park, and Clam Creek picnic area. The east side is all beach and ocean. A great place to walk around or bike for the day.

On one beach we saw a large fishing boat just off shore. There were hundreds of birds around the boat. Pelicans and many other types of birds. We also noticed dolphins coming out of the water just behind the boat.
