Rockland ME

Beech Hill Preserve

A short 1 mile RT trail about a mile from the campground. Ocean views. Also a stone building with a grass roof at the top. Created by Olmstead in the early 1900's as a picnic shelter for some wealthy folks who owned the hill. Nice views in all directions.

Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse

Two miles RT along a breakwater that goes out into Rockland Bay. There is a light house at the end. It was a hot day but not on the breakwater. Great place to walk out into the ocean and probably good for sunrise and sunset.

Owls Head State Park

Two half mile trails. One goes to a lighthouse and the other to a beach. Very cool here the way the wind was blowing off the ocean.

Home Kitchen Cafe

Lunch. Haddock and more haddock. Great food and the place is for sale. 2 million gets you a restaurant a few out buildings and a rental building on the ocean.

Sail Power and Steam Museum

This place has all things having to do with ship building, ships, old dive stuff, lime mining that took place in Rockport. Also a number of wooden boats in the ocean just outside. Tons of pictures and rooms full of tools, boat parts, steam engines, etc.

A tool to figure out how to load cargo in a ship:

Birch Point SP

A nice sand beach on the ocean.
