Daufuskie Island

You need to take a ferry to get to Daufuskie Island. Great place to bike around since the golf cart is the main transportation on the island. Some roads are paved while others are sand. Mostly ridable packed sand today but I hear it is weather dependent and can be tough going.

The best Tabby ruins, a light house, and a mansion that was moved from another island are in Haig Point. This is the northern half of the island and is gated. I went around the gate on my bike but this is a big part to miss if you can't get in. This area has tennis, golf, and equestrian areas. Some very nice houses with more than a few in the mansion category.

There is a long history on the island. More recently the Oyster industry went away in the 1950's due to pollution from Savannah. Now it is housing developments and a little tourism.

A nice place to bike around with things to see sprinkled around the island. One beach I went to was full of oyster shells. There were two small museums that were interesting. A very low key place. Few people on the island and I only saw a hand full of cars all day. Something like Hilton Head may have been like 75 years ago before the bridge.
