This is a nice island! About 70% State Park so most of it is biking and hiking trails and beach. There are bike trails that go around the entire outside of the island. They cross few roads and there is very little traffic on the island so crossing roads is easy when it happens. I biked around the main trail that goes around the island. There are other trails that cut across the island and I tried one. The trails are mostly pavement but some dirt and a fair number of boardwalks that cross marshes. The trail is a mix of beach front, marsh, and woods. Very nice! Later I walked around the historic area. A dozen or more mansions and a significant hotel. It appears the mansions are State owned now? No sign of anyone living in any of them. The hotel is in operation. In the afternoon I tried a few of the hiking trails that go to interior ponds.
A very nice blue sky day with temps starting at 55 and quickly rising to 72. Great for biking and walking. At one point I talked to someone who lived on the island. They were exercising injured turtles. There is a turtle aquarium type place that I didn't visit but got some good information from the turtle rehab person. For example the Gopher turtle digs 40 foot tunnels that it shares with snakes!
