We drove route 12 from Panquitch to Goblin State Park. A scenic route with lots to see. We hiked the Calf Creek Falls trail on the way. It was Spring on this hike. Green trees and flowering cactus. Fremont Indian figures on a far wall painted with red pigment. Horsetail which is a grass like plant with joints. Ancient plant that grows near rivers in the South West. The hike followed a river and ended at a 125 foot waterfall. Spectacular and surprising in such a dry area. The river flows year round and we saw some wetlands along the way which was also surprising. Great hike with canyon walk views and river views the whole time.
We also stopped at Capital Reef and hiked Cohab Canyon Trail. Steep up to a high canyon. The canyon was filled with red and white swiss cheese rock. Also bands of black round rock which is volcanic.
