The last few times I have been to Arches I said I would not return due to over crowding. Holly had never been to Arches so we had to go. It is an amazing place. Today we learned that if you go early enough in the season, 3/2 in this case, crowds are not an issue. We started at Delicate Arch. Usually there are people standing in front of it and all over the area. Today it was great. Peaceful. We did take a wrong turn on the trail and ended up walking along the edge of the giant bowl near the arch. We should have turned around in retrospect. It was one of those rock areas that tilt away rapidly. Mostly safe but not good to look! After that we went to Devils Kitchen trailhead and saw many arches, fins, and rock structures. Then to double Arch and that area. The park has a lot more than arches but it also has plenty of arches. A nice 70 degrees day and mostly sunny.
We took route 128 out of Moab to go to Fruita CO. A spectacular drive that makes you think you are still driving in a National Park. Lots of trails on this route that I may get to later in this trip? The road follows the Colorado River.
