Black Canyon of the Gunnison

This is a steep canyon! You can hear the Gunnison river most of the time. The sound of running water bouncing off the canyon walls. It is 2000-ish feet down to the river from the rim. This time of the year is a little too early for this park. At 8000 foot elevation there is still snow on the trails and the main road is closed at the visitor center. The good news is there is no one there. Once I started walking on the road I didn't see anyone. I walked as far as Painted Wall View and took all the side trails along the way. I was at the South rim which is the main entrance. Saw some hawks circling around in the up drafts. It was a perfect sunny day starting at 45 degrees and quickly going up to 65.

I spent most of the day at the park and then took a short walk at the Grand JCT entrance of the Colorado National Monument. Always interesting there.

Weather is calling for high winds and blowing dust here the next two days. Not sure what that means but with the high winds I decided to go back to the mountains a little early. It appears to be winter there this coming week.
