Canyonlands 2

Lathrop trail at Canyonlands Island in the Sky.

Great hike! There are six parking spaces for this hike. Only one was needed today. This is a great trail to show you all aspects of the park. You start with a mile or so of flat grass lands. Then into an interesting rock section for a mile or so and then the rim of the canyon. When you get to the canyon it is all drop offs and distant views to the Colorado river. It isnt clear how you would get down. The trail then goes around a corner and traverses across a big drop off area to where you can see a down possibility. It looks steep but the trail starts into many switch backs that get you down to the canyon floor. I went to the canyon floor and a mile beyond and then turned around. I went 12 miles rt. 20 miles rt if you want to go to the river and back. That would have been mostly flat walking from where i turned around but a lot of extra miles. Probably very nice when you get to the Colorado river. This is one of those well done trails. You dont know how you could possibly get down until you see it. Great variety of grass land, cool rock hills, dramatic canyon, and washes at the bottom.

In the afternoon i went on a few short walks that gave you great views down into the Colorado river side. White Rim Overlook and Grand View.

Nice day starting at 30 degrees going up to 55. Supposed to go down to 28 tonight at the campground. What happened to Spring?

White Rim Overlook and Grand View below. White Rim is nicer and no one there. Grand View is popular.
