Hovenweep, Canyons of the ancients

This is an area of Utah and Colorado that is very remote. A few ranches, a few cows. No towns and no houses that could be seen. Hovenweep has a nice 2 mile walk that goes around a small canyon with many ~750 year old free standing stone buildings. There is more here but down 4 wheel drive roads or you could hike the roads. Since it was a half travel day I moved on to Canyons of the Ancients. Lowry Pueblo is a significant ruin with many rooms and kivas. You can walk down into a small area. The Canyons of the Ancients visitor center is well worth checking out. They have a short walk to ruins and also have a museum with pottery and lots of other things found in the area. Everything today was somewhere in the AD 600 to 1200 range. I also learned of a good hike that I hope to do in the next few days.

Mesa Verde RV resort is home for the next three nights. Nice tent sites away from the RVs with mountain views and land behind it. Also electricity so I can turn on my heater in the AM. Lows are in the 20s all three nights so that should be nice. Painfully slow wifi.

Mesa Verde RV resort. I think I am 2 miles from the park? Only "tent" person. I will be in the van with electric heat. Living large.
