Colorado National Monument

This is a nice park! There is a 22 mile road with many hiking trails leaving from it. The road is a CCC project. Pretty amazing what they were able to do. I got up early in case it was crowded. Not a problem. There are people driving on the road but no problem parking wherever you want. Very few hikers.

I started at the grand junction entrance and went on the Devils Kitchen and Serpants Trail. A lower area with interesting rock formations. Then it was on to Ute Canyon trail. This trail went from the top of a canyon to the bottom. Nice switch backs and small river along the bottom. Then on to Monument Canyon trail. This is a long one that goes from one end of the park to the other. I did a few miles and may return for the other side of the trail tomorrow.

Sun and 50 in the am turning to 60 and cloudy. I could go right to Moab tomorrow but I think I will spend another day at this park.

Monster trucks at the fair grounds a half mile away from 8-10. Too bad as this was a nice quiet campground last night. Also what appeared to be full moon last night.

Driving

Looking down at the road. There were a few tunnels and some pretty good switch backs to get down there!

This parks balanced rock. They have big horn sheep in this area. I looked for a while but did not see any.
