Since I had a great time yesterday I thought I would do something similar but different today. Snow shoe in the am and ski in afternoon. I went back to 89 and went beyond where I was yesterday. I went past Luther Pass and parked near a forest service gate which was on the left. This is a nice area but not nearly as dramatic as yesterday. Went up to a similar elevation (8500). Good snow and good views but no rock cliffs and drop offs.
The afternoon ski was nicer than yesterday. I went beyond grass lake as you head back to Tahoe. There is a big open field, swamp? to ski in. You could also go into the trees which I did first since it was intense sun yet again. Glad we don't have sun in VT. It gets to be an issue after a while! The woods were nice. You could pick a pitch you like and just go. Woods here are super open so no trails needed. Later I went out into the open area.
weekend is winding down here. Lots of people leaving. Just like home downhill skiing works mid week only. Very happy with what I did this weekend so I am fine with no weekend skiing. I have skied at least part of the day for eight days now. What to do tomorrow? Ski of course! Two more days in Tahoe.
I would like to check out Kirkwood but when it comes down to it I will probably walk over to Heavenly tomorrow. It has been nice not driving much while in Tahoe.
